Poetry for Everyone In-Person

Poets, Janna Knittel, Freeman Ng, and Dralandra Larkins, will be conducting poetry workshops for the community.  Workshops will help participants generate new writing, stimulate their creativity, and learn to develop their writing skills. All levels are welcome!  Bring paper and pens or a device to write on. Registration required. Limit 15.  Funded by the Minnesota State Arts Board.

Freeman Ng, "Poetry Pro-Am: Writing Poems with the Poets" 2:00pm-2:45pm

We'll write poems inspired by the poetry of well-known poets, aided by suggestions that will make this a comfortable exercise even for non-writers. Bring paper and pens or a device to write on.

Dralandra Larkins, “Before I Lie: Writing What We’re Afraid to Say Out Loud” 2:50pm-3:35pm

This workshop invites participants to write bold, honest poems that challenge silence and speak from the body, the archive, and the soul. Through guided prompts and optional oracle exercises, we’ll explore how truth-telling can be both a personal act and a communal offering.

Janna Knittel, “Love Poems that Rock, Love Poems with Bite” 3:40pm-4:15pm

People have been writing love poems for so long that it feels like everything has already been said about love, but you can still shock, startle, and surprise readers if you swap cliches for specific and unexpected details.
