|Cold Spring Library Presents: Voyageur Games with Nikki Rajala!|
Event Type: Author Event|
Age Group(s): School Aged Children, Teens
Start Time: 11:00 AM
End Time: 12:00 PM
What did the French-Canadian voyageurs do when they weren't paddling or trading furs? Work, of course, but they made time for fun, challenging each other with physical outdoor activities, like arm-wrestling and tug-of-war. Indoors, they created games on checkerboards and with playing cards. Attendees of this program can try games played on a checkerboard, a version of the 'plumstone' game and 'cat and mouse' (a modified tug-of-war), and bring home the directions. They will also learn about the daily life of voyageurs and fur traders and hear a short reading from Nikki's book 'Treacherous Waters.' For ages 6 to 14. Preregistration required, limit 12.Library: Great River Regional Library - Cold Spring Map
