Ekphrastic poetry, describing works of art with words, dates back to the ancient Greeks. In her work, poet and book artist Barb Hawes bends the form with poems that explore how six works of art shaped her understanding of art. Join us for an hour of poetry, art and a bit of art history.Barb is an artist from Marshall, MN. Her interest in book arts started with studies of illuminated manuscripts. "Ekphrastic Journeys" is her third book art project. These poems are part of "Ekphrastic Journeys", a book arts project supported by a grant from the Southwest Minnesota Arts Council (SMAC) with funds appropriated by the McKnight Foundation.
