Author Candace Simar has written several books focused on the experience of the early Scandinavian immigrants in Minnesota, including the Civil War, the Dakota conflict and the grasshopper plagues. She will read from her books Abercrombie Trail, Pomme De Terre, and Birdie, which won the 2012 Spur Award for best juvenile fiction set in the west.
